Spinal decompression works by gently separating the vertebral bones of the spine, and getting pressure off of the “pain generators” of the spine, i.e. the discs, joints and nerves.  By decompressing the spine, all three of these painful tissues are alleviated of pain.  This usually requires a series of treatments that varies depending on the severity of the problem(s).  Compared to other treatments, in my experience the improvement is faster, greater and longer lasting.  Most patients won’t have pain recurrence for many months or several years, and if it recurs it will usually be milder and require less treatment.
